I aim to make sure that your documents are of a high quality and give an excellent impression of their author. I love working with words (and the people who write them!) and the service I provide will make sure your text is accurate, clear, consistent, appropriate for your readers and well written. Although I am based in the Peak District in England, I work with people and organisations across the UK and overseas.
What I offer
I edit and proofread a wide variety of non-fiction documents, including marketing brochures, leaflets, theses and dissertations, public information, guidance notes, company reports, website copy, CVs and translated documents – anything that can be improved with the help of an editorial eye. I work with companies, charities, public-sector organisations, students, design and translation agencies and freelance writers, and have years of experience.
I specialise in editing for plain English as well as editing and proofreading text written by authors whose first language is not English (non-native speakers). I have a background in the charity sector, and my specialist subjects include marketing, English literature, teaching, humanities, and animals (particularly cats!). I have worked as a copy-editor and proofreader since 2004, with particular experience in plain English, academic documents and marketing communications. As an editor at Plain English Campaign, I made amendments to improve the clarity of hundreds of documents for organisations and the public sector. I have proofread academic documents for students at UK universities and I’ve written and copy-edited website text, newsletters and copy for marketing materials. I have a background in teaching English as a foreign language and have worked in marketing and communications.
I am an Advanced Professional member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders in the UK and I follow their code of service standards. I’m listed in their Directory of Editorial Services. I also have a Professional Certificate in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
